Are You Moving?

Or are not planning to attend Cornell Village for the 2008/09 school year? If so, please inform your child’s home room teacher or Mrs. Gammie in the office.

We have had to send some of our transfer students back to
their home schools because our class enrolments are so large. If
you are moving (for sure) and know that your child will not be at
Cornell Village next year, we may be able to accommodate some of these families.

This type of information is also very important as we plan our classes for next September. Thanks for your help with this matter!

June 26th Professional Half Day

Elementary teachers in York Region will have a half-day on June 26th to focus on divisional and school needs in planning for continuous student improvement. Teachers and administrators will be involved in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School Plan for Continuous Improvement for the upcoming school year.

Students will attend school during the morning of June 26 only and will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Students who are normally bussed to and from school will have transportation. Parents with children in after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

Summer Advantage is Back!

Summer Advantage is a 200 page, fully coloured, activity book designed to reinforce and maintain Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students' academic learning skills over the summer months.

There is one 200 paged activity book per grade level from Junior kindergarten to Grade 8. All eight major units and three summer fun units in each booklet are aligned with the Ontario curriculum expectations and are written by Ontario teachers for Ontario students.

Booklets have parent information pages, evaluation forms, follow up activities and a family focus. The cost of each booklet is the same as last year - $20.00.

There are sample units available for parents to look at on the website. Look for the colourful posters advertising Summer Advantage throughout the school.

Order forms/flyers will be distributed in May and books will be delivered in June.

Aboriginal Self-Identification Project

In support of the Ministry of Education’s directive, the York Region District School Board is providing an opportunity for students to self-identify their Aboriginal ancestry so that expanded supports can be provided to First Nation, Métis and Inuit children. Learn more.

School Year Expenses

The staff have put together an estimate of expenses for the year by grades. Details.

The school also budgets for a Benevolent Fund through the school fundraising program—this year the magazine campaign. These funds are available through the principal (confidentially) to help families in need, especially if they have 2 or 3 students in the school. If you have any questions, please principal Doug Wilton.
