Education is a partnership involving parents, students, teachers, principals, school boards, government, and the community. Your involvement in the School Advisory Council gives you the opportunity to strengthen that partnership.

What does the School Advisory Council do?

  • While all schools follow the same basic policies and practices, the School Advisory Council can give advice to school staff on how these practices can best be applied at our school given our knowledge of the community and our children.
  • Working with school administration in the development and implementation of the school plan for continuous improvement
  • Communication to all parents regarding School Advisory Council news and activities including maintain/updating the council Web site and distributing regular installments of the Council newsletter
  • Coordination of parent and children after school programs such as Kids' Safety and other parent involvement initiatives, such as the Volunteer Tree
  • Fundraising to enhance school life for our students. Funds raised by the Parent Council have been used to provide Smart Boards, books for the classrooms and library, and support for the music and physical education programs

Who should attend Council meetings?

How else can I be involved in Council activities?

All parents are encouraged to join a Council subcommittee. You do not have to be a Council member to sit on a subcommittee. Our Council has several subcommittees that do valuable work in supporting our students, teachers, and school. Learn more.
