Christy Brailey, Markham Parking Control Clerk, clarified exactly what No Parking and No Stopping mean.
“Parking” means the halting of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when halting temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading goods or passengers.
“Stopping” means the halting or leaving or a motor vehicle, even momentarily, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or of a traffic control or sign.
This means, you can NEVER leave your car during posted No Parking hours, even to run your child up to the door.
You can NEVER stop your car on the south side of the road during posted No Stopping hours, even to let your child get out of the car. To do so would put you in violation of the bylaw and in a position to be ticketed. |
