The Cornell Village Public School
Advisory Council Volunteer Tree will be officially open on November 28th—just in time for you to stop by and
grab a leaf while you are in the school for Student-Parent-Teacher conferences.
It is located on the right wall just
inside the double doors leading into the school from the entrance hall (across from the Kindergarten rooms).
In the 2006 Parent Survey, most of you indicated you would like to volunteer and help out in the school. Unfortunately,
many of you had work obligations or small children at home that kept you away. We hope our Volunteer
Tree helps you solve these problems and provides a way you too can help out.
Our Volunteer Tree consists of many leaves. Each leaf contains a task—some as small as cutting out shapes for a
class project, some as big as listening to children read, and every size in between.
When you have a bit of time to
spare, even as little as half an hour, stop by the tree, read over the leaves, and pick one. Each leaf contains a
short description of the task to be done, an estimate of the amount of time it will require, and a contact name—who you need to see to get further instructions. Some of the tasks will require time at school, but many of them
will be things you can do at home, for example
cutting out shapes while you watch your favourite
TV show.
So next time you are at the school, sign in at the office, stop by the Volunteer Tree, grab a leaf, and contribute
to our school community.
Your help will be appreciated
and I daresay you’ll get something out of it too.
