Drop off & Parking

Parking and stopping around the school has been a confusing issue in the past. To help clarify things, the regulations are explained below. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 905.471.1694.

No Parking on School Property to Drop Off or Pick Up

You cannot drive into the school driveway entrances from 8:45 - 9:00 am and from 3:30 - 3:45 pm. The driveways are blocked by pylons and a teacher is outside patrolling the driveway.

If you wish to enter the property during these times, please park in the indented parking spaces (see the map below) on Country Glen Road (west side only) or Christian Reesor Park Avenue. There is room for a total of 40 to 50 cars in these indented parking areas.

Parking on School Property After 9:00 am and Before 3:30 pm

Parking is permitted in the school parking lot (north side of school).

Parking is NEVER permitted in the front driveway loop or the bus loop.

Please note: the driveways are blocked with pylons from 8:45 - 9:00 am and from 3:30 to 3:45 pm and cars are not allowed to enter or leave the school property during these times.

Bus Loop

The bus loop is the driveway that surrounds the school parking area on the north side of the school (see the map above). School buses enter the school driveway, drive through the north side of the loop, and park on the south side of the loop to pick up and drop off students.

Cars are NEVER permitted in the bus loop when buses are present.

Parking is NEVER permitted in the bus loop.

Cornell Common Road (south side)

The north side of Cornell Common Road from the corner of Country Glen west to the beginning of the curve is a parking zone EXCEPT during posted No Parking hours which are from 8:30 to 9:30 am and from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.-school drop off and pick up times.

There is NEVER parking permitted around the curve in the road.

The south side of the street is a posted No Parking zone-just like the south side of every street in Cornell. In addition, it is a posted No Stopping zone from 8:30 to 9:30 am and from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

No Parking and No Stopping Defined

Christy Brailey, Markham Parking Control Clerk, clarified exactly what No Parking and No Stopping mean.

“Parking” means the halting of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when halting temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading goods or passengers.

“Stopping” means the halting or leaving or a motor vehicle, even momentarily, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or of a traffic control or sign.

This means, you can NEVER leave your car during posted No Parking hours, even to run your child up to the door.

You can NEVER stop your car on the south side of the road during posted No Stopping hours, even to let your child get out of the car. To do so would put you in violation of the bylaw and in a position to be ticketed.
