We’ve all heard that milk helps our kids grow and helps strengthen their teeth and bones. The calcium and vitamin D in milk is in a form that our bodies can easily and efficiently absorb. But here is some of the good stuff in milk you not have known about:

  • carbohydrates help boost energy;
  • protein helps build and repair body tissues and build antibodies;
  • fat provides the energy they need to get through the day;
  • vitamin A improves vision at night; and
  • folate aids in red blood cell formation.

In fact, milk boasts an incredible 15 essential nutrients. It’s like drinking your vitamins!

Skiing/Snowboarding Program

Applicable Grades: 4-8

Timeframe: January - February

Cost: $125, includes rentals, lesson, left ticket, and transportation; or $85 if you own your own equipment

Students in the Junior and Intermediate divisions go to various local ski hills to learn how to ski or snowboard. Usually, three trips are planned which gives students a chance to become proficient in the activity chosen. We take advantage of the professional instructors who certify students for the type of hill that suits their skill level. In other words, beginners are certified to ski/board on easy runs, and experts are certified on the more challenging runs. A large number of staff and parent volunteers attend to help with supervision of students and to manage safety.

School Dental Program

Applicable Grades: JK, SK, 2, 4, 6, 8 and others, as required

Cost: No charge

Timeframe: mid-April

Dental screening is conducted by qualified dental hygienists for all children in grades JK, SK, 2, 4, 6, 8, and others as required in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Mandatory Health Programs, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Dental screening consists of a quick look in teh mouth using a separate, sterilized mirror for each child. You will be notified if your child needs to see a dentist.

If your child is not in one of these grades and you would like to have him/her screened, you may request that they be screened. If you wish to have your child excluded from dental screening, you may notify Dental Services in writing. Exclusions will cover the time your child is in elementary school.

If you do not have dental insurance and the cost of care represents a financial hardship, treatment may be convered through the Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT) program. Treatment is also a covered benefit under the Ontario Works Program.
