Fundraising

Throughout the course of the school year, both the school and the School Advisory Council run fundraisers to raise money to support the school. Your participation in these activities is optional. We appreciate your support, but you are not required to participate. Learn how we spend your fundraising dollars.

Why Fundraise?

Our fundraising efforts are aligned with specific school needs. We fundraise to:

Planned Activities for the 2008/2009 School Year

*Please note: The Legacy Run is a fundraiser for Markham Stouffville Hospital. The pledge money earned by students goes to the hospital, not to CVPS school initiatives.

In addition, we have an ongoing fundraiser: Lovable Labels. You can purchase high-quality labels that stick to just about anything and support CVPS at the same time. A great deal for all! Learn more about our Lovable Label fundraiser.

Your Fundraising Dollars At Work

At the October meeting of our School Council many of your fundraising dollars were allocated to support student achievement at Cornell. A total of $9200 will be spent on the following items:

  • Literacy Support for KG, Primary, Junior and Intermediate divisions for age appropriate materials to support our work in literacy e.g., classroom libraries, listening centres, leveled books, etc.—$1750 per division
  • Support for our three Reading Programs, which cover all divisions: Blue Spruce, Red Maple, Silver Birch—$1000
  • Recess Revival playground equipment—$300
  • Intramural sports equipment—$700

In addition to this contribution, some of the fundraising money went toward the purchase of Orff Musical equipment which is used largely by the middle grades, but can be used by all grades.

We applied to the Board’s technology cost share program to bolster our computer resources. We purchased more laptops and cart, multimedia network of MacBook computers, another SMARTBoard, and more.

We also use the fundraising dollars to offset the costs of programs and performances that come to the school.

Thanks for your ongoing support of our fundraising initiatives and thanks to our School Council for their hard work in promoting and organizing these programs in support of our students!
